.4
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION Agenda Section: 11.
CMOS lor
TEN
STAFF REPORT Report Number: 94-1060WS
AGENDA SESSION DATE February 7, 1994 Report Date: 2-3-94
DISPOSITION
Item Description: Discussion Regarding Engineering Service Contract with SEH
Administrator's Review/Recommendation:
- No comments to supplement this report
- Comments attached.
Explanation/Summary (attach supplement sheets as necessary.)
SUMMARY;
The City has used the firm of Short-Elliot-Hendrickson for engineering
services for over 20 years. Since the departure of the City's former City
Engineer, SEH has been used more frequently for civil engineering services.
SEH has requested that the City renew the contract for engineering
services. The contract is a standard general service contract and can be
terminated any time if the City were to decide to explore alternative
service providers or reinstate a City Engineer position.
A survey of staff who work closely with SEH representatives indicated a
high satisfaction level with the services of SEH and a desire to continue
utilizing SEH in the future.
An alternative to the contract with SEH could be a formal RFP to better
gage the scope and cost of other service providers. While it is good
business to do this periodically to determine the "market", it may not be
in the best interests of the City to do so in the middle of several on-
going projects.
Staff is seeking Council discussion and direction in this matter.
( --
iipptek
Smantha rduno; City A inistrator
./
RECOMMENDATION;
