Item No: 07E Meeting Date: February 22, 2010 Type of Business: CB Administrator Review: ____ City of Mounds View Staff Report To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Desaree Crane, Assistant City Clerk-Administrator Item Title/Subject: Resolution 7583, Resolution Amending the Policy Requiring Cable Broadcasting of City Meetings Conducted at Open Public Meetings at Mounds View City Hall. Background: At the January Work Session, the City Council and Staff discussed the role of the Cable Committee, and whether present cable productions are appropriate for the City’s cable channel 16 (MVTV). During this Work Session discussion, it was the consensus of the City Council that present cable productions are appropriate for MVTV. In addition, it was also the consensus of the City Council to revise the role of the Cable Committee to a more informal committee. This would allow more resident creative collaboration and participation in MVTV programming. Staff would start the process of advertising for members around the community to include area schools and businesses. This informal committee will continue to be called the “Cable Committee’” and will no longer have the requirement to be televised live on MVTV. Discussion: Staff and the Cable Committee met on Tuesday, February 16, 2010, to discuss whether the Cable Committee is open to an informal Cable Committee. It was the consensus of the Cable Committee to revise the role of the Cable Committee to a more informal committee to allow open creative participation without being televised live on MVTV. In order to start this process, the City Council will need to revise Resolution 5557 (attached), and exempt the Cable Committee from the requirement of cable broadcasting its meetings.
