Mounds View City Council February 8, 2010 <br />Regular Meeting Page 9 <br /> <br /> 1 <br />11. REPORTS 2 <br />A. Reports of Mayor and Council. 3 <br />1. Mayor to Report on Executive Session from January 25, 2010. 4 <br /> 5 <br />Mayor Flaherty reported that the Executive Session discussion centered on union contract 6 <br />negotiations with the Mounds View Police Union. The Council also discussed the performance 7 <br />of the clerk-administrator, which the Council found to be favorable. 8 <br /> 9 <br />Mayor Flaherty noted the 12th Annual North Metro Home and Garden Show would be held 10 <br />February 27, 2010 from 9:30 am - 2:00 pm at the Schwan’s Super Rink at the National Sports 11 <br />Center in Blaine, Minnesota. Admission is free. 12 <br /> 13 <br />Mayor Flaherty indicated the Irondale Band was hosting the 20th Annual drum line show at The 14 <br />Winter Music of the Night Festival on February 13, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. with the color guard 15 <br />portion of the program beginning at 7:00 p.m. Council Member Gunn expressed this was a great 16 <br />event and encouraged the community to attend. 17 <br /> 18 <br />Mayor Flaherty reviewed the recent foreclosure and house vacancy information with Council. 19 <br />He encouraged the City to be in contact with the 57 homes in foreclosure that have not been 20 <br />vacated and provide them with information on the services available at the City. 21 <br /> 22 <br />Council Member Mueller thanked Troop 167 for doing the flag ceremony this evening. Troop 23 <br />167 also held a fundraiser breakfast last Saturday, which was very well attended and thanked 24 <br />Moe’s for hosting the event. She encouraged residents to volunteer for the upcoming Festival in 25 <br />the Park on August 21, 2010. 26 <br /> 27 <br />Mayor Flaherty reported that on February 12, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. the City would be having a Staff 28 <br />and Council retreat to discuss goals and objectives for 2010 at Random Park. 29 <br /> 30 <br /> B. Reports of Staff. 31 <br /> 1. Police Department 2009 Annual Report. 32 <br /> 33 <br />Deputy Police Chief Kinney reviewed the 2009 Annual report with the Council. He reported the 34 <br />overall arrests and citations were up slightly in 2009. However, the number of general calls was 35 <br />down. Theft continues to be the top overall crime within the City. Further information was 36 <br />given on the initiatives throughout the department. All squad cars would be equipped with video 37 <br />cameras in 2010, which was a much-needed piece of technology. He reported the Police 38 <br />Department came in 5% under budget for 2009 and then asked for comments or questions from 39 <br />the Council. 40 <br /> 41 <br />Mayor Flaherty questioned how well attended the gun safety classes were. Deputy Police Chief 42 <br />Kinney stated the classes were capped at 15, but additional room could be made to accommodate 43 <br />individuals. 44 <br /> 45
