<br />Item No: 8B <br />Meeting Date: September 13, 2010 <br />Type of Business: CA <br />Administrator Review : ____ <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Thomas Kinney, Deputy Police Chief <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 7669 Authorization to Enter into a Grant <br />Agreement with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, <br />Office of Traffic Safety Safe and Sober Project <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br />The Mounds View Police Department in partnership with the Ramsey County Sheriff’s <br />Department, the Police Departments of New Brighton, Roseville, Maplewood, St. <br />Anthony, North St. Paul and White Bear Lake applied for and have been awarded a <br />grant from the Department of Public Safety for the Safe and Sober project. The <br />purpose of the grant is to allow agencies to conduct highly publicized, overtime <br />enforcement projects addressing traffic safety issues with an emphasis on impaired <br />driving and passenger protection use. The Safe & Sober Grant Program provides funds <br />to law enforcement agencies to conduct stepped-up traffic enforcement and community <br />outreach. The grant funds are available on a cost reimbursement basis; costs are <br />reimbursed after they are incurred and paid by the grantee agencies. The project year <br />begins on October 1, 2010 and ends on September 30, 2011. <br /> <br />The Mounds View Police Department will use the funds from the grant to pay officers to <br />work various traffic enforcement projects.
