<br />Item No: 08B <br />Meeting Date: October 11, 2010 <br />Type of Business: Consent <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: James Ericson, City Administrator <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 7678 Accepting a Donation from Bethlehem <br />Baptist Church in the Amount of $16,892 <br /> <br />Introduction: <br /> <br />Bethlehem Baptist Church purchased the building located at 5151 Program Avenue in <br />2004 and received City zoning approval to renovate the former office / warehouse space <br />for church usage. At the same time, the Church expressed its desire to sponsor and <br />support worthy community endeavors and created the Mounds View Service Project Fund <br />pledging annual donations totaling $25,000. They envisioned the fund to be used to help <br />meet certain community needs jointly identified by the city and the Church that would be “in <br />harmony” with their mission and values. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br />Representatives from the City, the Community Center and the Park & Rec Commission <br />met with representatives from Bethlehem Baptist Church on September 15, 2010 to <br />discuss potential funding opportunities for the second half 2010 service project fund <br />donation which totaled $16,892. A number of programs and improvements which had <br />been reviewed by the Park and Recreation Commission and City Council were highlighted <br />for Bethlehem’s consideration. Subsequent to the meeting, the Church responded with a <br />letter dated September 30, 2010, recommending the following disbursement schedule: <br /> <br />1. New Picnic Tables and concrete slabs at City Parks $2,077 <br />2. Support for Teen Center at the MV Community Center $8,000 <br />3. Sidewalk and ADA Improvements at the Community Center $4,000 <br /> 4. Activities supporting the economic climate of the City $2,815 <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Attached for your consideration is Resolution 7678, a resolution which accepts the <br />donation from Bethlehem Baptist Church in the amount of $16,892 and authorizes the <br />distribution of the donations according to the Church’s recommendations. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />________________________ <br />James Ericson <br />City Administrator <br />
