<br />Item No: 8C <br />Meeting Date: December 13, 2010 <br />Type of Business: Consent <br />Administrator Review: ____ <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From: Heidi Steinmetz, Economic Development Specialist <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 7714 Approving Direct Mailing of Mounds View Matters <br /> <br /> <br />Introduction <br /> <br />City staff is recommending that the City Council approve the direct mailing of the City’s <br />quarterly newsletter, Mounds View Matters. <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />At the December 6th Work Session, the City Council discussed the direct mailing of <br />Mounds View Matters. City staff brought this item to the City Council because the <br />current delivery method through Independent Delivery Service does not allow each non- <br />commercial address in the city to receive the newsletter. <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br />Per Ordinance 800 (Chapter 12 of the City Charter - Section 12.13), the City of Mounds <br />View must publish a newsletter four times a year. Each non-commercial postal delivery <br />address within Mounds View must receive the newsletter. <br /> <br />Nystrom Publishing, the printer of Mounds View Matters since 1998, provided the <br />Council with the below quote on December 6th to direct mail the newsletter: <br /> <br />Delivery Method: Direct Mail - Postal Customer, ECRWSS <br /># of Addresses: 5,453 (includes some routes in New Brighton) <br />Postage: $0.15 cents per piece ($823.40 per issue) <br />Mailing Service: $150.00 <br />Total Cost to Mail $973.40 <br /> <br />The total cost of publishing Mounds View Matters (if direct mailed) is shown below. <br /> <br />Item Quarterly Cost Annual Cost <br />Publishing - Writing, Proofreading, Layout $1,000 $4,000 <br />Printing $2,300 $9,200 <br />Delivery $974 $3,896 <br />Totals $4,274 $17,096 <br /> <br />
