2008 Mounds View Comprehensive Plan <br />______________________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />Chapter 7: Economic Development 7-6 <br /> <br />Goals & Policies <br /> <br />The City will govern and direct future economic development by the following set of goals and <br />policies. The goals and policies focus on business development and redevelopment but they have <br />connections to other chapters of this Comprehensive Plan. Land use, housing, transportation and <br />public amenities also affect the City’s ability to retain its economic base and to attract development. <br /> <br />Business Development Goal: Retention <br /> <br />In light of the increasing mobility of businesses, Mounds View will focus on retaining existing <br />businesses in the city. In some cases, the City may decide to help businesses create circumstances <br />where they can expand to meet their customers’ needs and/or their own desire to grow and prosper. <br /> <br />Retention Policies: <br /> <br />• Enhance business communication efforts through evaluation of existing programs. <br /> <br />• Focus business retention efforts on businesses that the City has identified as having the greatest <br />impact for future growth and development by continuing informal business retention visits and <br />site tours. <br /> <br />• Maintain and support open communication between the City and the business community in <br />acknowledgement of their value and be in a position to address concerns or meet expectations. <br /> <br />• Make available a reasonable and prudent level of assistance (financial or otherwise) to enable <br />existing businesses to expand their operations and/or facilities in Mounds View. <br /> <br />• Maintain the Mounds View Business Toolbox (approved by the EDA in March 2008). The <br />Toolbox includes economic development resources and services available for existing and new <br />businesses desiring to locate in Mounds View. <br />
