The main duty of this
position is to service and maintain the City’s ice rinks and warming houses. This
position typically runs from December to February of the following year.

In 2006, the City hired a part-time Public Works intern. This part-time intern
position has assisted with numerous activities associated with public
improvements needed to meet the City’s goals. This position has also allowed
the City to provide better communication and increased level of service to the
citizens of Mounds View.

Proposal for 2009 Seasonals:

In 2008, new hires started at the hourly rate of $11.00/hr with the possibility of
advancing to $11.50/hr after one month of satisfactory performance. Returning
seasonal workers, along with the engineering intern, were compensated at
$11.75/hr. Staff recommends the same compensation for 2009.

Each summer seasonal employee will work 40 hours per week. The fall seasonal
employee and ice rink employee may also work 40 hours per week: however,
hours may be fewer. All seasonal positions will remain on staff for a period no
longer than six months.

Part-time Seasonal Employee:

In 2008, the City Council approved a part-time seasonal employee position. William Hanggi,
formally the City’s Lead Utility Worker, is available and is willing to come back to
the City as a Part-time seasonal again for 2009. Staff is recommending that the
City again attempt to take advantage of this opportunity. Being employed by the
City for over 33 years, Mr. Hanggi would be a great asset to help assist the
Public Works Department with the Streets and Utilities Project by marking locates
(assisting the department in locating water lines, sewer lines and curb stops).
Mr. Hanggi, being a former senior employee, was a great asset and information
resource for the City for 2008. The wage for the part-time seasonal employee
position would be set at $13.25 per hour, as it was last year.
