Public Works Supervisor Position Description Page 2/4 <br /> Provide general supervision to assigned personnel including providing informal feedback <br />regarding job performance, annual performance reviews, and conducting employee training. <br /> Manage personnel matters relating to attendance, overtime, vacation, sick leave, and after- <br />hours “on-call” staffing, including the review and approval of timesheets and leave requests. <br /> Review and make recommendations to the Public Works Director involving hiring, <br />transferring, suspension, promotion, discharge, reward, or discipline of assigned personnel. <br /> Answer questions and resolve problems and complaints from the public in a timely and <br />courteous manner. <br /> Perform administrative duties including assisting with budget preparation and quarterly <br />reports, writing staff reports and memos, and operating a computer and software. <br /> Keep Public Works Director informed of the status of various maintenance projects and <br />needs related to the division including the development of short- and long-range programs <br />and goals for the division operations and maintenance. <br /> Write specifications, identify and assess vendor products and/or services, and make <br />recommendations for replacement of equipment, vehicles, and other related items to the <br />Public Works Director. <br /> Assist with various project development activities, including project scoping, costs estimates, <br />schedules, plans/specifications, bidding, contract administration, and construction <br />management. <br /> Occasionally operate light and heavy equipment and assist division personnel with <br />completing job tasks and activities. <br /> Attend meetings, seminars, or other training. <br /> Performs other duties and responsibilities as apparent or assigned by the Public Works <br />Director. Assume duties of Public Works Director during short-term absences. <br /> <br />MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br /> High School diploma or GED, and two years post-secondary education at a vocational <br />school, college, or university. <br /> Five years of increasingly responsible experience in managing, operating, maintaining, <br />and/or constructing public works infrastructure, facilities, buildings, parks, and/or vehicles. <br /> Three years supervisory experience with a demonstrated ability to direct and supervise a <br />wide variety of personnel. <br /> Two years working knowledge of municipal government experience. <br /> See “Special Requirements” for additional qualifications regarding licensures. <br /> <br />PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS <br /> Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Construction Management, Civil <br />Engineering, Public Administration, Business Administration, or other related field. <br /> Five years or more of supervisory experience. <br /> Public Works Certification as accredited by American Public Works Association (APWA) <br /> <br />NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES <br /> Considerable knowledge of the time, costs, materials, methods, techniques, tools, and <br />equipment used in repairing, operating, maintaining, and constructing various public works <br />infrastructure and facilities.
