Mounds View City Council January 14, 2008 Regular Meeting Page 4 Mayor Marty noted that more and more people are using their cell phones rather than land lines 1 so adequate coverage is important. 2 Ms. Asplund indicated that she called the FAA Tower Manager at the Anoka Airport and he 3 seemed rather surprised that there is a tower planned for that area. He also said that the FAA 4 Board in Texas handles the application so there may be some information gaps or lack of 5 investigation on their part. 6 Ms. Asplund pointed out her home and the location of the tower on the map for Council. 7 Council Member Mueller indicated that she hates to disappoint residents but, for the greater good 8 of the City, she is in favor of this location for the tower. She then said that this tower was 9 planned for the City’s park and that she would not be in favor of. She further commented that it 10 is important, for the safety of the residents, to ensure cell phone coverage. 11 Mayor Marty agreed that moving this out of the Park and into the industrial area is an 12 improvement. He then said that he does experience cell phone coverage issues as he comes into 13 the City on the freeway. He further said that he understands the concern of the resident because 14 the billboards would eventually be coming down but this tower would not. 15 MOTION/SECOND: Marty/Mueller. To Waive the Reading and Approve Resolution 7201, a 16 Conditional Use Permit request by T-Mobile for a 128 foot Wireless Communications Monopole 17 to be located at Sysco, 2400 County Rd J. 18 Council Member Flaherty commented that this was reviewed by the Planning Commission and 19 recommended for approval. 20 Ayes – 5 Nays – 0 Motion carried. 21 B. Public Hearing to Consider Resolution 7202, a Development Review for a 22 Building Expansion at Midwest Motor Express, 2169 Mustang Drive 23 Mayor Marty opened the public hearing at 8:06 p.m. 24 Planner Heller provided an overview of the application for development review to allow for a 25 building expansion at Midwest Motor Express. 26 Planner Heller explained that this expansion would be to the west side of the building to move 27 the existing back doors out. They anticipate no additional truck traffic or business but expect this 28 expansion to allow them to run their business more efficiently. 29 Planner Heller indicated that they would need to stripe or add more parking to adhere strictly to 30 the City’s Code. She then said that they do not need any more parking to accommodate their 31 business and Staff feels that there is plenty of asphalt on this site to accommodate the business’ 32 parking needs. 33 Planner Heller indicated that the Planning Commission reviewed this matter and has 34 recommended approval. 35
