The proposed schedule shows that the recommendations of MnDOT would be met.
Conclusions and Recommendations
The City Council has established that improving the street and utility infrastructure is the number one
strategic goal in Mounds View. Complimentary to this is maintaining those portions of the infrastructure
that already exist in good condition. The proposed 2008 Street Maintenance Project is a positive step
towards that goal.
It has been shown that routine crack filling and seal coating is a useful and cost effective tool for the
maintenance and longevity of a bituminous street surface. City Staff has determined those streets that are
appropriate candidates for a street maintenance project, and has proposed a program to address all
candidate streets from 2006 to 2008. The streets included in this Report for the proposed 2008 Street
Maintenance Project are consistent with the findings of the City Staff.
A funding source exists for the proposed project, and funds have been allocated in the approved 2008
budget consistent with the scope of work proposed. Portions of the preparatory work for the project would
be performed by City forces, and pavement markings would be applied by Ramsey County forces, both
resulting in cost savings for the City.
