There was some discussion (May Work Session) about the Parks Supervisor
who had taken on additional responsibilities when the former Public Works Supervisor
resigned, and whether additional compensation was warranted in this case.

Discussion:

Prior to the Public Works Director’s resignation, staff had advertised to fill the Public
Works Supervisor position, a position which was vacated by Tim Pittman in 2006. Upon
learning of Mr. Lee’s intended resignation, it was decided that it made no sense to appoint
someone to that position. During the time subsequent to Mr. Pittman’s resignation, Mr.
Lee acted somewhat as the Public Works Supervisor, however, the Parks Supervisor,
Steve Dazenski, helped to provide the day-to-day supervision and oversight for work
crews and shop operations.

At the May Work Session, the City Council and Staff discussed additional compensation
for Mr. Dazenski. It was the consensus of the City Council to compensate Mr. Dazenski
in an amount not to exceed 5% of his regular salary. However, an end date to this
compensation was not discussed at this Work Session. Staff would recommend ceasing
the compensation when the Public Works Supervisor position has been addressed by the
new incoming Public Works Director and City Council.
