Crane, Assistant City Clerk-Administrator <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 7316 Ratifying the Mounds View Election Judges <br />for the 2008 Primary and General Election <br /> <br /> <br />State Law requires that election judges for the Primary and General Elections be <br />appointed by the municipal governing body. Resolution 7316 contains a finalized <br />list of election judges for the 2008 Primary Election (September 9, 2008), and the <br />General Election (November 4, 2008). <br /> <br />The City currently has enough judges for the Primary Election, but continues to <br />recruit more judges for the upcoming General Election. Staff has another training <br />session scheduled for Wednesday, August 13, 2008, and will continually update <br />the City Council on the progress of recruitment. <br /> <br />Election Judges perform many duties including opening and closing the polling <br />place, distribute ballots to residents, responsible for election materials, obtain <br />results after polls are closed, register and sign-in voters, and certify election results <br />at the polling place. Minimum requirements for being an Election Judge for <br />Mounds View are: <br />• Be at least 18 years of age <br />• Be a citizen of the United States <br />• Be able to read, write and speak English <br />• Be a resident of Ramsey County <br />• Be eligible to vote in Minnesota <br />• Not be related to any candidate at this election. <br /> <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Approve the appointment of election judges for the 2008 Primary and General <br />Election. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />Desaree M.
