PRELIMINARY WORK PLAN <br /> Spring and Summer: <br /> 1) Promote the "Landscaping for Wildlife" concept throughout the City. <br /> 2) Improve existing map of maximum potential greenway for public <br /> presentation. <br /> 3) Submit an article on the EQC's greenway mission for publication in Mounds <br /> View Matters. <br /> 4)_ Recommend that the City Council take the greenway into consideration-when- - <br /> making zoning changes, and that it designate certain city-owned land as <br /> greenway. <br /> 5) Prioritize portions of the potential greenway for immediate designation <br /> efforts (see first draft below). <br /> 6) Solicit volunteers for a citizen action team trained to collect community-based <br /> information that would enhance the City's capacity to establish and manage <br /> the greenway. <br /> 7) Set up a regional meeting for coordination with adjacent cities. <br /> 8) Begin grant-application process for national environmental organization funds <br /> for land acquisition and/or appropriate plantings within crucial portions of <br /> the greenway. <br /> Fall and Beyond: <br /> 1) Make the greenway a reality with voluntary registration of portions of <br /> backyards or business property as "greenway". <br /> 2) Provide public education on the "Landscaping for Wildlife" concepts and <br /> greenway maintenance and benefits. <br /> 3) Develop incentives for greenway registration. <br /> 4) Acquire and utilize grant money for greenway development. <br /> 5) Inventory bird and butterfly species within established corridor. <br /> 6) Consider walking (or biking) trail extensions into city-owned portions of <br /> greenway. <br /> 7) Seek heavy involvement in Highway 10 redevelopment, to include landscaping <br /> for wildlife and possible tunnel passage at junctions with other wildlife <br /> corridors. <br /> 8) Provide progress reports to the Council and the public. <br />
