Maintenance Worker <br /> Administrator s ReviewfRecommendation: <br /> - No comments to supplement this report Abp' <br /> - Comments attached. <br /> IP <br /> _Explanation/Summar/ (attach supplement sheets as necessary.) <br /> i7TIYSMAIM <br /> As part of the 1994 budget process, the City Council approved funding for <br /> the hiring of an additional Public Works Maintenance position to work in <br /> the sewer, water and surface water utility divisions. There are currently <br /> 7 Public Works Maintenance employees (2 in street division, 2 • in sewer <br /> division, 2 in water division and 1 mechanic) and it was determined that <br /> additional staff is required to fulfill operational obligations. <br /> The job announcement, which was placed in various newspapers and <br /> publications in March, required the successful candidate to be a high <br /> school graduate or have a GED, have 3 years of related experience and have <br /> a current Commercial Drivers License with Airbrake: and Tanker Endorsements. <br /> Over 100 applicants responded to the advertisement expressing interest in <br /> the position, approximately one third of whom met minimum qualifications. <br /> On Monday, April 18, eight of the top qualified candidates were interviewed <br /> by Mike Ulrich, Public Works Supervisor, and me. <br /> It is proposed that Tim Fredberg be hired to fill this Public Works <br /> position. Mr. Fredberg has worked for the Cities of Oakdale and Columbia <br /> Heights for the past six years as a Public Works Maintenance Worker. He <br /> has demonstrated that he has met all of the requirements of the position <br /> and has an excellent work history which indicates he can perform the duties <br /> and responsibilities of the position. <br /> It is proposed that Mr. Fredberg start at 90% of Level C which is <br /> $13 . 00/hr. Upon a satisfactory performance review after 6 months, he would <br /> then advance to 95% of Level C, $13 . 65/hr. After 1 year with the City and <br /> upon satisfactory performance review, he would advance to Level C, <br /> $14 . 44/hr. <br /> It is recommended this hire be contingent upon successful completion of a <br /> physical examination and drug test. Reference checks have been completed <br /> and are satisfactory. <br /> � ()Iik4k <br /> Tim Cruikshank, Asst. To City Admin. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> Motion to waive the reading and adopt resolution No. 4551 approving the <br /> hire of Tim Fredberg, Public Works Maintenance Worker, to be funded 1/3 <br /> each out of the Sewer, Water and Surface Water Utility Divisions, account <br /> numbers 730-4121-010, 700-4121-010 and 420-4121-010, respectively. <br />
