STAFF REPORT <br /> PAGE TWO <br /> APRIL 25, 1994 <br /> The new Public Works Director will begin at Step 1 and advance to <br /> Step 2 after 6 months, Step 3 after one year, Step 4 after 2 years <br /> and the final Step 5 after 3 years. All step advancement will be <br /> conditional on a satisfactory performance evaluation. <br /> It is recommended that the reclassification be effective as of <br /> April 4 , 1994 . The position will be a probationary position for 6 <br /> months. <br /> Leadperson Classification <br /> Because the duties and responsibilities of Public Works Director <br /> dictate attendance at meetings, consultations with engineers and <br /> other professional personnelassisting the City in its operations, <br /> the need to have a designated "second in command" position is <br /> essential to the efficient and effective management of the Public <br /> Works Department. While it is not suggested that the need exists at <br /> this time for the position of foreman, it is in the best interest <br /> of the department operations to create the position of "Leadperson" <br /> to manage the department in the absence of the Public Works <br /> Director. <br /> It is recommended that the Leadperson's compensation schedule <br /> consist of a $.75 increase in the currently hourly wage of $14 . 73 , <br /> making the hourly wage $15. 48 . <br />
