REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION Agenda Section: 13.
STAFF REPORT Report Number: 94-115OWS
s
AGENDA SESSION DATE May 2. 1994 Report Date: 'i-28-94
DISPOSITION
Item Description: Municipal Buildings Energy Audit
Administrator's Review/Recommendation:
- No comments to supplement this report i/Y1
- Comments attached.
Explanation/Summary (attach supplement as necessary.)
SUMMARY;
Staff met with NSP representatives to review the City's electric use and
discuss new programs offered through their company. A couple of their
programs are readily employable and the City can take advantage of them as
soon as possible. A major program that staff seeks Council input is for a
total energy audit of all City owned buildings. NSP is currently offering
no interest loans to convert less efficient fixtures, pumps, and motors
etc. to highly efficient devices that not only reduce energy demand, but
save the City money.
To briefly explain the process, the City must hire an engineering firm to
conduct the energy audit, (of which 15 % of the total project qualifies for
funding) , convert items having a maximum of 10 years return on investment,
and solicit competitive bids for the project. The Public Works Staff has
already been examining the possibility of making some of these revisions
of the City's well pumps.
Staff will seek more information regarding repayment of the loans and
provide Council th more info when available. The City's limit for one
years loan is t , 000, 0
///
Mike Ulrich, Public Works Director
•
RECOMMENDATION;
