REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION Agenda Section: 12.
STAFF REPORT Report Number: .
94—_1193W S
Report Date: 6-2-94
AGENDA SESSION DATE June 6, 1994 Re P
DISPOSITION
Item Description: Discussion Regarding Request to Schedule Pond Treatment for Silver
View Pond (July Treatment)
Administrator's Review/Recommendation:
- No comments to supplement this report
- Comments attached.
Explanation/Summary (attach supplement sheets as necessary.)
SUMMARY;
Silver View Park pond is an attractive amenity of Silver View Park.
However, during the last part of July the pond has traditionally become
rank and odorous due to weed and algae growth. This growth is easily
taken care of with chemical treatment. The cost is approximately
$1, 800/treatment and permits. One treatment has been given for the past
two years at the request of a petition presented by persons living on
the pond. The cost of pond treatment has been stricken from the budget
with the idea that contingency funds can be requested if necessary. It
is therequest of the Parks and Recreation Commission that the City
become proactive to the problem of the pond algae and request
contingency funding for the treatment of the pond before it becomes so
terribly foul in appearance and odor.
Therefore, at the Parks and Recreation Commission's recommendation, I
request the City Council to consider funding the 1994 treatment of
Silver View Park pond in July at a cost of approximately $1, 800 for the
removal of algae and other weeds that are permitted by the DNR.
Mary Saarion, Directo o Recreation and Forestry
RECOMMENDATION:
