Explanation/Summar/ (attach supplement sheets as necessary.) 5TTtifvf A RY, Last week, one of the residents of a 4 unit apartment complex at 7618 Edgewood Drive contacted Mayor Linke regarding the conditions of the complex. The owner had failed to pay the gas and electric bill resulting in termination of service by NSP. A fire had occurred in the building in April and debris remained in the basement. The garbage was collecting as there had not been hauler service for some time. While electricity remained in the individual apartments, the electricity is off in main areas, hallways and stairwells. There is no hot water to any part of the building. There are three families currently living in the building - all with very t small children. Upon a request from the Mayor to take any and all action to determine what steps the City could take to alleviate the existing unsafe and unhealthy living conditions, staff began the process for abatement. On Wednesday, June 22 , 1994 , the Fire. Marshall and the City's Building Official inspected the building and determined that the condition of the building rendered it a hazardous building per Minnesota Statutes. The attached Order for Abatement and Resolution will begin the process by which the City can legally take action to ensure that corrective actions will be taken to render the building safe for occupants. The Order impacts the residents of the building to the extent that the corrective actions required in the Abatement do not necessitate non- voluntary vac .t ' n of the building.
