ITEM 5.B <br /> CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br /> OFFICE OF THE MAYOR <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> IRONDALE HIGH SCHOOL <br /> BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE <br /> WHEREAS, through the Department of Education, former President Bush in 1990 <br /> initiated a program entitled, AMERICA 2000 to help move the nation toward the six National <br /> Education Goals adopted in 1990; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Blue Ribbon Schools Program identifies and gives national <br /> recognition to a diverse group of public and private schools that are unusually effective in - <br /> meeting local, state and national goals and in educating all of their students; and <br /> WHEREAS, public and private schools from the 50 states, the District of Columbia, <br /> Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as Bureau of Indian Affairs and Department <br /> of Defense Dependents Schools may be nominated; and <br /> WHEREAS, each state administers its own program for selecting public schools to <br /> be nominated to the national level; and <br /> WHEREAS, a panel consisting of some 100 outstanding public and private school <br /> educators, college and university staffs, state and local government officials, school board <br /> members, parents, the education press, medical professionals, business representatives <br /> and the general public reviews the nominations; <br /> WHEREAS, the panel considers the reports and makes recommendations to the U.S. <br /> Secretary of Education, who then announces the names of the schools selected for <br /> recognition; and <br /> WHEREAS, of the nation's 110,000 schools, a total of 2,123 schools have been <br /> awarded national recognition during the Blue Ribbon Schools Program's nine years of <br /> operation, and 62 of the schools have been recognized twice. <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Mounds View would like to congratulate "Irondale High <br /> School" in a special way for receiving the "Blue Ribbon School of Excellence award. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jerry Linke, Mayor the City of Mounds View, do hereby <br /> proclaim, June 21 through June 25, 1993 as "Irondale High School Week" in the City of <br /> Mounds View. <br /> Given under my hand and the seal of the City of Mounds View this 14th day of June, 1993. <br /> Jerry Linke, Mayor <br />
