'` c,-- Agenda Section: 7.
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
OUN oDS
STAFF REPORT Report Number: 93-457WS
nrior
Report Date: 4-1-9 3
CM°
AGENDA SESSION DATE April 5, 193
DISPOSITION
Item Description: Update on Collective Bargaining Proposed Settlements
•
Administrator's Review/Recommendation:
- No comments to supplement this report
- Comments attached.
•
Explanation/Summary (attach supplement sheets as necessary.)
SUMMARY:
The police union representatives, Timothy Ramacher and myself have met
several times since last Fall to settle the labor contract for 1993 . At the
end of March, the following settlement was proposed and accepted by the
union on April 1, 1993, pending Council approval:
1993 Proposed Labor Contract Provisions - Police Patrol/Detectives
* 2 . 95% increase to base wage.
* $15. 00/month increase in City's portion of health insurance
contribution (this is the same amount previously approved for
non-union employees) . Total City contribution = $300. 00/month.
* $20. 00/year additional for uniform allowance. Total yearly
uniform allowance = $495.
In addition to negotiations with the patrol officers, Timothy Ramacher and
I met several times in the past few months to negotiate a 1993 salary
increase for the police sergeants. In the past, the sergeants have been
included in whatever annual compensation adjustments were given to the non-
union personnel. However, in light of the impact of their salaries to the
overall compensation schedule in terms of compliance with Pay Equity
standards and practices, it was necessary to evaluate their compensation
separately. In addition, there were issues to be addressed that were "hold
overs" from years ago when their positions were created - namely, the issue
of compensation for court duty.
The proposed settlement agreement that has been reached with the police
sergeants is as follows:
* 2.75% increase in base pay.
* $15.00/month increase in City contribution to health insurance
(Again, this is the same . - _ - union)
RECOMMENDATION;
6*-a-- 624-e--e,1-(51---- .
Sa 'antha Orduno, C y Administrator
