r,7-
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION Agenda Section: 11.
1111178
STAFF REPORT Report Number: 93-461WS
VP,
AGENDA SESSION DATE April 5, 1993 Report Date: 4-1-93
DISPOSITION
Item Description: City Hall Expansion
Administrator's Review/Recommendation:
- No comments to supplement this report
- Comments attached.
Explanation/Summary (attach supplement sheets as necessary.)
,SUMMARY:
Staff has contacted Short-Elliott-Hendrickson regarding the
feasibility of their providing architectural services for the
proposed City Hall expansion. The estimated cost from SEH is
$17 ,000 to prepare detailed plans and specifications. This is
based on staff preparing the conceptual layout and SEH using the
layout to create detailed architectural, electrical and mechani-
cal plans and specifications. This is a very rough estimate and
SEH felt it may go down depending on the amount of City staff
involvement.
The question for Council is two-fold. First, should staff send
out Requests for Proposals; and second, how much involvement
should staff commit to this project. The estimate is more than I
originally anticipated and is in the amount that we would normal-
ly ask for RFP's; but, this is not necessarily required. RFP's
would allow staff to review a number of firms, but that becomes
an additional time commitment and slows the time line for actual
expansion work.
Staff involvement in the design and layout would necessarily
impact some of the time tables for goals discussed last Monday at
the special work session. If staff involvement is limited to the
minimum, the cost of services may increase somewhat.
Staff would like to get direction from Council regarding whether
to request proposals, what time line to establish for the project
ang the extent of staff involvement.
01
Ric Mi -tor
City Engineer/Director of Public Works
RECOMMENDATION:
