MOUNDS VIEW <br /> PARKS, RECREATION & FORESTRY DEPT. <br /> 1993 <br /> 1st Quarter Report <br /> The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department was off to a fast pace in January as <br /> winter programs began. Planning was at full speed for upcoming youth and adult athletic <br /> league registrations. Winter skating rinks were maintained at a high quality level by <br /> parks maintenance workers Jeff Wienke and Steve Dazenski to add to the successful <br /> skating season. The following are a number of highlights from the first quarter of 1993: <br /> • Hosted 64 park maintenance workers from over 30 metro and outstate cities for a <br /> rink maintenance review seminar. <br /> • Received a $12,500 matching L.A.W.C.O.N.grant for paving of a portion of the <br /> Silver View Park pathway. <br /> • Held the first meeting of the Mounds View Garden Club. <br /> • Took over 300 youth T-ball, 8-ball, elementary youth, etc. registrations on <br /> Saturday, March 20 for the first day of spring/summer activities registration. <br /> • Successfully completed the first City Newsletter with the input of the newly <br /> established Newsletter Editorial Committee. <br /> • Completed seasonal employee handbook. <br /> • Registered over 65 adult softball teams for leagues beginning the third week in <br /> April. <br /> • Park Maintenance Workers Jeff Wienke and Steve Dazenski attended turf <br /> management school. <br /> • Assisted the re-establishment of a community based Festival in the Park <br /> committee. <br /> • Continued involvement with Golf Course Task Force and Regional Senior <br /> Community Center committee. <br /> • Coordinated delivery of athletic field lining chalk and diamond dry with six other <br /> conununities in order to get volume pricing. <br /> • Begun conversion of equipment for summer time use. <br /> Mary Saarion <br />
