REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION <br />STAFF REPORT <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE <br />.JULY 26, 1993 <br />Agenda Section: 9.B. <br />Report Number. 93-564C <br />Report Date: 7-21-93 <br />Council Action: <br />O Special Order of Business <br />❑ Public Hearings <br />O Consent Agenda <br />3'0 Council Business <br />Item Description: Ordinance No. 527, An Qrdinance Amending Chapter 2.09 of the Municipal Code <br />of the City of Mo %s View Entitled, "Compensation of Mayor and Council" <br />Administrator's Review/Recommendation: J <br />- No comments to supplement this report G�f "� <br />- Comments attached. <br />Explanation/Summary (attach supplement s ets :: necessary.) <br />arlmaasm <br />At the July 12, 1993 Mounds View City Council meeting, the City Council <br />read Ordinance No. 527 proposing an increase to Mayor and Council salaries. <br />This Ordinance, if approved tonight, would repeal Ordinance No. 450 (which <br />set the council salaries at their existing rate) and would also amend <br />Chapter 2.09 of the Mounds View Municipal Code entitled 'Compensation for <br />Mayor and Council' to reflect the proposed increases. <br />The compensation increase for Mayor and Council is proposed to better bring <br />Mounds View's City Council salaries in line with that of other <br />municipalities in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area. Although this <br />increase would better offset the salary disparity, these salaries would <br />still be among the lowest in the Metropolitan area. The current annual <br />salary for the Mayor is $3,600. It is proposed that this salary be <br />increased to $5,100• per year. The current salary for Councilmembers is <br />$3,300 per year. It is proposed that these salaries be increased to $4,500 <br />per year. <br />Because state law and municipal code both state "a salary increase cannot <br />become effective until after the next municipal election," this Ordinance <br />could become effective following the special election to fill the vacant <br />Council seat. This election is scheduled for August 24, 1993. This would <br />allow for the salary increases to become effective August 27, 1993, which <br />is 30 days after the ordinance would be published. <br />Otille410( <br />Tim Cruikshank, Asst. to City Admin. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Motion to waive reading and adopt Ordinance No. 527, salary increases for <br />Mayor and Councilmembers. <br />
