DEPARTMENTAL BUDGET NARRATIVE <br /> FUND: General <br /> DEPARTMENT: Recreation <br /> DEPARTMENT OBJECTIVE: <br /> The Recreation Department provides the community with a variety <br /> of opportunities to participate in leisure recreational <br /> activities through planning and organization of programs, <br /> activities, and special events. <br /> ACTIVITIES: <br /> Recreational activities and programs include instructional <br /> and competitive sports and athletics, arts and crafts, theater, <br /> dance and music, swimming, physical fitness programs, special <br /> events for the community, trips, first aid and other <br /> instructional programs and activities such as line dancing, <br /> karate, preschool activities, afterschool activities, school <br /> vacation activities, camps, summer playgrounds, 55 Alive Driving <br /> Classes, senior citizens clubs and many other programs covering a <br /> wide range of ages from pre-schoolers to Senior Adults. <br /> DEPARTMENT GOALS: <br /> - Offer after-school activities <br /> - Provide instruction and skill development for leisure <br /> pursuits. Activities such as dance, gymnastics, first aid, <br /> 55 Alive Defensive Driving, Babysitting, and other <br /> instructional classes would be included in this <br /> classification of activities. <br /> - Provide activities for non-school days for the youth of our <br /> community. Also; provide-summer actIv3tIes—inelud ng-summer <br /> playgrounds, youth athletics, camps, trips, special events, <br /> etc. <br /> - Coordinate with neighboring communities to provide the <br /> greatest number of opportunities as effectively as possible. <br /> - Offer special events for the entire community including MVCT <br /> productions, tournaments, shows, entertainment, Festival In <br /> the Park, craft boutiques, holiday parties and trips. <br /> Prepare the City Newsletter, public relations and <br /> informational materials including facility maps for public <br /> knowledge - - always in a timely and efficient manner using <br /> the many publicity means available. <br /> - Continue offering sport leagues for all ages including both <br /> instruction, recreational, and competitive in nature to <br /> match the interest of the people.
