Item No: 3 Meeting Date: March 7, 2016 Type of Business: Work Session City of Mounds View Staff Report To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: James Ericson, City Administrator Item Title/Subject: Review Goals and Priorities Discussed at the City Council and Department Head Retreat Introduction: The City Council held its annual retreat with management staff on February 29, 2016, at the Mounds View Community Center. The Council reviewed the previously adopted 2015 goals and priorities and received updates on progress associated with each. Discussion: The City Council determined that many of the goals and priorities from 2015 remained just as important in 2016, thus most of the priorities carried over with some minor tweaking to their wording. The one priority from 2015 which was not carried forward related to business retention and recruitment efforts, which is the core job responsibility of the Business Development Coordinator. New goals included developing a vision for City Hall Park (which expanded on last year’s priority regarding a Splash Pad), developing a program to recognize outstanding employee achievement, pursuing the naming of County Road 10, and, developing a streets and utilities improvement program to pick up where the last program left off. Recommendation: Please review the attached goals and discuss whether the wording accurately captures the essence of the Council’s intent. Any changes would be made prior to formal adoption by the City Council at the March 14th meeting. For Council reference, I have added the lead department for each priority—these departmental notations will not be included in the official version adopted on March 14, 2016.
