<br />Item No: 3 <br />Meeting Date: June 6, 2016 <br />Type of Business: Work Session <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: James Ericson, City Administrator <br />Item Title/Subject: Update on Progress Associated with City Council Goals for <br />2016 <br /> <br />Introduction: <br /> <br />On February 29, 2016, the City Council and department heads met for a joint strategic <br />planning and goal setting retreat at the Mounds View Community Center. Subsequent to <br />this retreat and goal setting session, the Council adopted a series of priorities for 2016 <br />which would serve as guiding principles for City staff. In addition, the Council requested <br />periodic updates on the progress being made on the priorities. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br />The Council reviewed its list of goals and priorities at the March 7, 2016, City Council Work <br />session, directing that the priorities be organized by service area. Finding that the re- <br />ordered list captured the essence of the issues discussed at the retreat, the Council <br />approved the 2016 Priorities via Resolution 8528 at their March 14, 2016 meeting <br />(attached for your reference.) <br /> <br />The following updates shall provide the City Council with a better understanding of where <br />we are with each priority, presented by service area. <br /> <br />ADMINISTRATION <br /> <br /> <br />Develop a program to recognize outstanding employee achievement <br /> <br /> <br />• Staff has completed preliminary research on employee recognition programs. <br />Attached is a statement of position from the Minnesota State Auditor on <br />Recognition Programs and Events, a LMC Public Purpose Expenditure Memo <br />(page 12) and Minnesota State Statute 15.46. Staff is conducting a survey of <br />surrounding cities to share employee recognition policies. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Pursue the naming of County Road 10 <br /> <br /> <br />• After meeting with MnDOT and County staff, the City was told signage on the <br />35W corridor could be replaced at no cost to the City. <br />• First reading of Ordinance 918 occurred on May 23. Second reading scheduled <br />for June 13. <br /> <br />
