<br />2016 Priorities Update Report <br />June 1, 2016 <br />Page 4 <br /> <br />PUBLIC WORKS (Continued) <br /> <br /> <br />Explore renewable energy and energy efficiency improvements; pursue Green-Step City <br />designation Level 2 <br /> <br /> <br />• Council approved the agreement between the City of Mounds View and Xcel to <br />allow for sale of power back into the grid. This was the final requirement needed <br />to get the solar panel systems on line. Trane will be providing a message board <br />for both City Hall and the Community Center indicating the power being <br />generated. <br />• Staff continues to work with Trane to review some other possible energy savings <br />improvements for the Community Center. <br />• Energy savings efforts and accommodations will be addressed in the Public <br />Works Facility design. <br />• Staff is working on establishing the requirements needed for Level 2 Green Step <br />City. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Finalize and approve the design, size, location, and financing plan for the new Public <br />Works building <br /> <br /> <br />• Staff and some Council members toured Public Works Facilities at White Bear <br />Lake, Vadnais Heights and Little Canada. <br />• Oertel Architects has begun schematic design on the new Public Works Facility. <br />Oertel Architects met with staff after the tours to review the design and take input <br />from staff. It is anticipated that Oertel will provide an updated schematic design in <br />June. <br />• City Council will be provided an update at the July work session as Oertel refines <br />the schematic design. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Develop a vision for City Hall Park <br /> <br /> <br />• The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Commission established a City Hall Park <br />Task Force (CHPTF) consisting of 3 commissioners. <br />• CHPTF has reviewed the existing conditions across the entire block, and is in the <br />process of establishing a vision. During their June meeting, the Commission will <br />be further discussing the vision with the intent of meeting with the Council at a <br />future work session. <br /> <br />
