<br /> <br />Suggested Mounds View Honey Bee Ordinance <br /> <br />(Submitted by Kathy Smith) <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />• Lot size/hive density shall be as follows: <br />o 0 – ½ ac. = 2 hives <br />o ½ ac. – 1 ac. = 4 hives <br />o > 1 ac. = no more than 6 hives <br />• Hives shall be located in backyard. <br />• Setbacks to be no less than 5 feet from property lines. <br />• Hive entrances shall face interior of apiary property. <br />• A water source shall be provided on site. <br />• A flyway barrier shall be established if the flyway borders sidewalks or other areas where <br />pedestrians travel. <br />• Beekeeper shall register with the city. A one-time registration fee of $50 (?) shall be due upon <br />approval of license. <br />• Beekeeper shall provide proof of beekeeping training (i.e, certificate, tuition receipt, etc..). In cases <br />where the beekeeper received informal training a waiver from an educational institution or a <br />Certified Master Beekeeper will be substituted for formal training. <br />• Any documented nuisance apiary will be dealt with on a case-by-case situation. <br />• License may be revoked by the council in cases where beekeepers fail to address repeated <br />nuisance bees. <br />• A beekeeper may receive a temporary variance for an additional hive when they collect a swarm <br />and until they find a new home for the colony. <br />Note: This ordinance is subject to change. <br /> <br /> <br />
