This is often due to a rapidly aging population in which many households begin entering their retirement years. 5.4 HOUSING 5.4.1 Development Patterns Over 70% of all housing in Mounds View was constructed during a forty year period from 1950 to 1990, with the 1970s alone accounting for over one- quarter of all homes. Less than 20% of the City’s housing was built after 1990. Much of the growth in the 1970s and 1980s was driven by Baby Boomers seeking starter housing. With little new construction and limited land development options in Mounds View, many of these original homeowners are choosing to remain in their homes.
