Item No: 09A <br />Meeting Date: August 14, 2017 <br />Type of Business: CB <br />Administrator Review: ____ <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> <br />From: Desaree Crane, Assistant City Administrator <br /> <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8795, Approving the Hire of Benjamin <br />Geisbauer as Public Works Maintenance Worker <br />(Sanitary Sewer Division) Position in the Public Works <br />Department <br /> <br /> <br />Background: <br /> Staff received a notice of retirement from Public Works Maintenance Worker Jeff Wienke. <br />Mr. Wienke has served the City for 28 years. Mr. Wienke’s last day was June 30, 2017. On <br />June 12, 2017, the City Council approved advertising for the Public Works Maintenance <br />Worker (Sanitary Sewer Division). Staff advertised the opening on the City’s website and the <br />League of Minnesota Cities website. Staff received six (6) applications, and interviewed <br />three (3). <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br />The interview panel consisted of Public Works Supervisor Don Peterson, Public Works <br />Maintenance Worker Neil Hiatt and me. It was the consensus of Staff to recommend <br />Benjamin Geisbauer to the position of Public Works Maintenance Worker (Sanitary Sewer <br />Division). <br /> <br />Mr. Geisbauer currently works as a seasonal employee for the City. Mr. Geisbauer holds a <br />Class D Water Supply System Operator and a Class SD W astewater Treatment Facility <br />Operator License. Mr. Geisbauer holds a Class B Permit for his CDL license, and will be <br />obtaining his CDL within 6 months (this is allowed under the job description). <br /> <br />Mr. Geisbauer, if hired, would be a member of the Public Works Collective Bargaining Unit. <br />Mr. Geisbauer would be subject to the established job classification system with regard to <br />the pay scale. Based on the criteria set forth by the 2017 – 2019 Public Works Collective <br />Bargaining Unit Labor Agreement, Mr. Geisbauer would qualify for Level A pay scale, which <br />is $25.46 per hour. Progressing to Level B, then C in the future will be based on Mr. <br />Geisbauer’s ability to meet the criteria established by the Labor Agreement. Also in <br />accordance with the Public Works Collective Bargaining Unit Agreement, Mr. Geisbauer <br />would be subject to a twelve (12) month probationary period. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
