Debra Hansen, who lives in a r ambler on Kumquat <br />Street N.W., checks a floor plan dr awing of the <br />r emodeling planned for the rambler on Xavis Street <br />N.W. <br />http://abc new s papers.com/2012/02/23/f if th-house-c oon-rapids -home-f or -generations -w as -s how c as ed-f or-the-public /Februray 28, 2012 <br />Fifth house Coon Rapid s Home for G en erati o n s was <br />sh o wcased fo r th e p u b lic <br />by Peter B odley <br />Managing Editor <br />A steady stream of people walked through a vacant/foreclosed home i n C oon Rapids for three <br />hours S unday afternoon. <br />The purpose was a pre-constructi on open house to show off the plans that have been made for the <br />remodeling of the rambler at 11635 X avi s St. N.W., whi ch was built in 1960. <br />This is the fifth vacant/foreclosed home that the Coon Rapi ds Housing and Redevelopment <br />Authori ty (HRA) has purchased through the Home for Generati ons program si nce it was launched in <br />2009. <br />The purpose of the Home for Generations program has been to purchase vacant/foreclosed older <br />homes in the ci ty, remodel them and then sell them to recover the HRA’s purchase and remodeling <br />costs, not to turn a profit. <br />All four pri or homes that have been purchased and remodeled have been sold, including two last <br />year. <br />But more than that, the HRA, through the Home for Generations program, wants to give residents <br />livi ng i n older homes i n the ci ty ideas for remodeli ng thei r own homes. <br />And for that reason, the city has pre-constructi on, mid-construction and post-constructi on open <br />houses. <br />To do the remodeling projects, the HRA hi res a contractor through a requests for proposal (RFP) <br />process. <br />Darrell Olson, bui lder, remodeler and owner of Legacy Homes Inc., was chosen by the HRA to <br />handle the Xavis Street project. <br />A native of C oon Rapids and a graduate of C oon Rapi ds Hi gh School, who then attended Anoka- <br />Ramsey C ommuni ty C ollege, Olson started i n the bui ldi ng trades in 1988 and went i nto business for <br />himself wi th Legacy Homes in 1996, both bui ldi ng and remodeling homes. <br />Accordi ng to Olson, construction was to start this week wi th completi on i n 60 days.
