<br />Item No. 9 <br />Meeting Date: March 3, 2008 <br />Type of Business: WS <br />WS: Work Session; PH: Public Hearing; <br />CA: Consent Agenda; EDA: EDA Business <br />Administrator Review: _____ <br /> City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Heidi Steinmetz, Economic Development Specialist <br />Item Title/Subject: Request for Feedback: Discuss Potential <br />Planning Study for Saturn/MultiTech Area <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />On February 11, 2008, the City Council reviewed its 2007/2008 Strategic and <br />Ongoing Goals and examined the status of the identified action steps. The <br />Council will discuss the goals again at the upcoming leadership and <br />management retreat scheduled for March 14−15, 2008. <br /> <br />Currently, the Council’s #2 Strategic Goal is to finalize and implement the <br />redevelopment and revitalization plan for County Highway 10. One of the <br />Council’s related action steps is to identify targeted areas of redevelopment. <br /> <br />On February 15, 2008, the Economic Development Commission (EDC) adopted <br />their own 2008 goals, which staff reported to the EDA on February 25, 2008. As <br />reported, the EDC’s 2008 priority goal is the development/redevelopment along <br />the County Hwy 10 corridor. One of the EDC’s specified 2008 redevelopment <br />projects is the redevelopment of the Saturn auto dealership. Saturn will be <br />relocating to Blaine upon completion of a new facility there. A site map of the <br />current Mounds View location is attached for the Council’s reference. <br /> <br />Introduction: <br /> <br />According to Jim Price of Saturn Development, it is anticipated but not certain <br />that Saturn will begin construction of their new facility in Blaine this summer. <br />Throughout 2007, staff remained in contact with Mr. Price and communicated <br />that the City would be interested in a different use for the Mounds View site. <br />Saturn has been working diligently to attract a new user for the Mounds View site <br />and has hired The Davidson Companies as the listing agent. <br /> <br />As staff and The Davidson Companies work to attract a new user, it would be <br />helpful to communicate (to potential users) the City’s vision for the site.
