one year (12 months) following the conclusion of grant funding. The retained CHRP-funded
position(s) should be added to the grantee’s law enforcement budget with state and/or local
funds, over and above the number of locally-funded positions that would have existed in the
absence of the grant.”

A suggestion for this grant is to hire an additional officer and assign an officer to the Drug Task
Force for Ramsey County, or add an officer to the patrol schedule thereby increasing the number
of police officers on duty. Having an officer assigned to the task force would allow the city of
Mounds View to better focus on active narcotics investigation within the city.

Recommendation:

The JAG grant funding will be accepted, as there is no funding match for this grant. Staff seek
council direction on whether or not the council would like to proceed with a COPS grant for a new
officer. The COPS office is accepting applications for this funding at this time. The grant is
competitive, so there is no guarantee that all applications will be funded.

Respectfully submitted,

Mike Sommer, Chief of Police
