Item No: 3
Meeting Date: Aug 3, 2009
Type of Business: Work Session
Administrator Review: ____
City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Desaree Crane Assistant City Clerk-Administrator
Item Title/Subject: Survey Questions – Festival in the Park Booth

Background:

The City Council instructed staff at the June Work Session to draft survey questions in
regard to dog kennel licensing and the City’s tagline. These survey questions were to
be available for residents to answer at the Festival in the Park event, scheduled for
Saturday, August 22, 2009.

Discussion:

Staff conducted a cost analysis, and it would cost the City approximately $400.00 to just
staff the booth (booth would potentially be open from Noon to about 8pm). The $400.00
does not include staff time to draft the questions, supplies for the booth and calculating
the survey responses. In addition, Staff is not certain if there would be enough
responses from the survey to make an accurate conclusion on the results.

Staff currently has information on the City’s website for residents to submit new tagline
ideas for the City. According to the information on the City’s website, tagline ideas
should be submitted by September 18th to Heidi Steinmetz. So far, the City has only
received two tagline ideas from residents.

Staff is requesting guidance from the City Council on whether to proceed with the
survey and/or a City booth at the Festival. If the City Council wishes to proceed with a
survey and/or a City booth, then Staff can have questions available for City Council
comment at the August 10, 2009, City Council Meeting.

Respectfully submitted,

____________________
Desaree Crane
