If the cities back out the park will revert back to the original owners, and is not a park at all. So therefore, it is not something that either city is trying to pull out of. In reference to "pull -tab monies", the Lions certainly did use these monies, but also did a lot of hard .cork at the park, planting trees, general up -keep, etc. In reference to the comment regarding "just hiring someone to do the work". We, both cities, would not allow that building to be built with volunteer labor. With the types of litigation the way they are, we had to run bids, we had to have engineering specs, we had to have the old building razed and the new building built, we had to meet all fire codes, etc. Even if the Lions had wanted to, they would not have been allowed to build that building on their own. We had to have the city handle the funding through donated funds. When this issue came a few years ago and the two cities decided not to put the Lions name on the park, the Lions did not abandon the project but continued to give their support, both with their gambling money and labor. What we are requesting is not at the behest of the Lions Club, but this Council feels that they do deserve recognition for all that they have done at Lakeside Park, and we feel that this could be done by renaming the park to Lakeside Lions Park. Councilmember Trude commented that she is concerned that the homeowners in the area would feel that the cities had abandoned the park with the name change. She asked if the Spring Lake Park Council had discussed this possibility. Mayor Wells replied that this issue has not been brought up to the council. Councilmember Trude stated that that would be her perception upon seeing the sign at the park, Lakeside Lions Park, that the Lions had established this nark for the cities. She would feel that the cities no longer contributed to the upkeep of the park, which is not true. Mayor Linke stated that, as he understands it, the Lions are primarily contributing to the infrastricture of the park, the buildings, etc., while the cities continue to support the basic upkeep of the park, grounds work, maintenance, etc. He stated that this should become a part of the history of the park. Councilmember Trude commented that perhaps they should call thier city hall Moundsview Lions City Hall as their Lions have contributed a lot to the plantings and upkeep of the grounds there. Mayor Linke reminded both Councils that both cities continue to contribute approximately $7,500 per year towards the park fund.
