DEPARTMENTAL BUDGET NARRATIVE <br /> i <br /> FUND: General <br /> DEPARTMENT: Recreation <br /> DEPARTMENT OBJEC FIVE: <br /> . ' The Recreation Department provides the community with a variety of opportunities <br /> to participate in leisure recreational activities through planning and organization of <br /> programs, activities, and special events. <br /> ACTIVII`1bS: <br /> Recreational activities and programs include instructional and competitive sports and <br /> athletics, arts and crafts, theater, dance and music, swimming, physical fitness <br /> programs, special events for the community, trips, first aid and other instructional <br /> programs and activities such as line dancing, karate, preschool activities, afterschool <br /> • activities, school vacation activities, camps, summer playgrounds, 55 Alive Driving <br /> Classes, senior citizens clubs and many other programs covering a wide range of ages <br /> from pre-schoolers to Senior Adults. <br /> DEPARTMENT GOALS: <br /> Offer after-school activities <br /> Provide instruction and skill development for leisure pursuits. Activities such <br /> as dance, gymnastics, first aid, 55 Alive Defensive Driving, Babysitting, and <br /> other instructional classes would be included in this classification of activities. <br /> Provide activities for non-school days for the youth of our community. Also, <br /> provide summer activities including summer playgrounds, youth athletics, <br /> camps, trips, special events, etc. <br /> Coordinate with neighboring communities to provide the greatest number of <br /> opportunities as effectively as possible. <br /> - Offer special events for the entire community including MVCT productions, <br /> tournaments, shows, entertainment, Festival In the Park, craft boutiques, <br /> holiday parties and trips. <br /> Prepare the City Newsletter, public relations and informational materials <br /> including facility maps for public knowledge - - always in a timely and <br /> efficient manner using the many publicity means available. <br />
