Mounds View City Council January 22, 2007
Regular Meeting Page 14

City to send a representative over to Silverview Apartments for an update on the trail in their 1
location. 2
3
Council Member Mueller reported that the North Metro Abate is having a fundraiser at Roberts 4
this coming weekend. 5
6
Mayor Marty said that he talked to the Mayor of New Brighton this last fall and he was told that 7
a week before the election they bring voting machines in to allow seniors to vote but Staff looked 8
into it and the only places that are qualified are nursing homes, assisted living or hospitals so the 9
City does not qualify. 10
11
B. Reports of Staff 12
13
City Administrator Ulrich indicated he had included a draft Agenda for the Council/Staff Retreat. 14
15
Council Member Stigney asked if the personality information could be completed prior to the 16
retreat by the new members to save time and money. 17
18
Mayor Marty noted that the Council/Staff retreat is an open meeting and residents are welcome to 19
attend if they so desire. 20
21
City Administrator Ulrich reported that the Red Cross will be sponsoring a program called “Get 22
Ready” to get residents ready for natural disasters and training for first aid and CPR. 23
24
City Administrator Ulrich reported that the Fire Department Operating Committee met last week 25
and the Fire Department is showing a $40,000 surplus for last year with the station completed at 26
this time ending up on budget. 27
28
City Administrator Ulrich commended Mr. Backman for receiving the “Outstanding Person” 29
award from Visit Minneapolis North for his work with them over the past five years. 30
31
1. Finance 32
33
Finance Director Beer explained that METRICOM put up towers and receivers in the City and 34
then disbanded but has now resurrected itself as Ricochet Communications in Denver and would 35
like to offer services in Mounds View with the only cost to the City being free rent on the tower 36
and they would offer reduced fees to the residents of Mounds View. He then said that he will 37
provide further information when it becomes available. 38
39
Mayor Marty said he had raised the issue of laptop computers before and he thinks that the 40
amount of paper could be greatly reduced if Council could view the packet on a laptop. 41
42
Staff will look into it with the option of high speed. 43
44
Finance Director Beer indicated that the City is working through the audit with the IRS on some 45
employee benefit issues and the IRS has suspended any further activities with regard to the audit 46
but the City will need to make changes to the Retirement Health Savings Plan in the future. 47
