Item No. 7A Meeting Date: February 12, 2007 Type of Business: CB WK: Work Session; PH: Public Hearing; CA: Consent Agenda; CB: Council Business City Administrator Review _______ City of Mounds View Staff Report To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Greg Lee, Director of Public Works Item Title/Subject: Resolution 7015 Appointing John Kroeger and Darren Peterson to the Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission and Appointing Jerry Kunz Chairperson Background: As per City Charter, the Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission is comprised of a maximum of seven (7) Commission seats. Two of these seats expired on December 31, 2006. The City’s Code states: 405.02: MEMBERSHIP; OATH; COMPENSATION: Subd. 1. Appointment of Members: The Commission shall consist of seven (7) members appointed by the City Council and based on the recommendation of the Parks and Recreation Commission, from the applications submitted. Based upon the recommendation of the Parks and Recreation Commission, the City Council shall appoint a chairperson. (1988 Code §34.02; Ord. 627, 2-8-99; Ord. 707, 10-28-02; Ord. 714, 5-12-03; Ord. 741, 6- 28-04) Discussion: The two seats that expired on December 31, 2006 were held by John Kroeger, who is the current chairperson for the Commission, and Shari Kunza. The City advertised for application to fill the vacant seats in the City’s official newspaper on November 22 and November 29. The City also included an advertisement on the City’s web site and message board. A deadline of December 15, 2006 was set for submittal of applications. On December 13, 2006 John Kroeger submitted an application for re- appointment to the Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission. This is attached for City Council’s consideration. This was the only application received to fill the two vacant seats.
