' Agenda Section: 9.7 <br /> ©���� REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION Report Number: 92_176C <br /> Report Date: 2-6-92 <br /> �� � STAFF REPORT Council Action: <br /> ❑ Special Order of Business <br /> CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE February 10, 1992 ❑ Public Hearings <br /> ❑ Consent Agenda <br /> ryic Council Business <br /> Item Description: Resolution No. 4188 Urging the 1992 Minnesota State Legislature to Pass <br /> Legislature which restores the Integrity of the Local Government Trust Fund <br /> Administrator's Review/Recommendation: <br /> - No comments to supplement this report <br /> - Comments attached. <br /> Explanation/Summary (attach supplement sheets as necessary.) <br /> ,SUMMARY; <br /> On January 14, 1992, the Minnesota House of Representatives failed to <br /> override the governor's veto which would have secured the future <br /> distribution of local government aid to cities through the 1991 Local <br /> Government Trust Fund. <br /> As a result of the override failure, a provision does not exist to provide <br /> distribution of aid to cities through the Trust Fund in the next biennium. <br /> Without new legislation which would sanction a new distribution formula <br /> and restore the Trust Fund for aid to cities, the opportunity exists for <br /> the State to raid the Trust Fund to balance its over extended budget. <br /> The League of Minnesota has requested passage of a resolution which urges <br /> legislators to restore the same aid distribution provisions from the 1991 <br /> omnibus tax bill. <br /> j <br /> S a Orduno, Cit Administrator <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> Motion to approve Resolution No. 4188 and waive the reading Urging the 1992 Minnesota <br /> State Legislature to Pass Legislation which Restores the Integrity of the Local <br /> Government Trust Fund and Gives Minnesota Cities "Their 2 Cents" <br />
