As a <br />note, these costs are about 25% greater than last year’s costs. Also, there were <br />a total of 39 such trees removed by contractors last year. The City Forester <br />recommends entering into contract with each of these firms at their respective <br />low bids. <br /> <br />Tree Removal Quotes – With Access <br />Front yard and boulevard (“accessible”) trees were removed in 2006 at $15.00 <br />per diameter inch by 4 Seasons Tree Care. 4 Seasons Tree Care has agreed to <br />renew their contract for 2007 with no increase in their unit prices. As a note, in <br />2006 there were 79 of these trees (including stumps) removed. The City Forester <br />highly recommends renewal of this contract. <br /> <br /> <br />Tree Trimming <br />Quotes were accepted for boulevard and park tree trimming from two companies. <br />4 Seasons Tree Care submitted the low quote at $125.00 per hour for two <br />workers, boom truck, and chipping truck. Precision Tree Service offered a quote <br />of $175.00 per hour. This low quote is also about 25% greater than last year. The <br />annual cost of trimming has been between $5,000 and $8,000. Again the City <br />Forester recommends awarding a contract to 4 Seasons Tree Care for tree <br />trimming services in 2007. <br /> <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends that the City Council approve awarding a contract to <br />Minnesota Tree Surgeons for the removal of trees up to 28.5 inches in diameter, <br />and Upper Cut Tree for the removal of trees with a diameter greater than 28.5 <br />inches for trees with no vehicle access. <br /> <br />Staff also recommends renewing the current contract the City has with 4 <br />Seasons Tree Care for the removal of trees with vehicle access. <br /> <br />Staff also recommends awarding a contract to 4 Seasons Tree Care for tree <br />trimming services. <br /> <br />Respectfully Submitted, <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Greg Lee, Director of Public Works
