To implement these goals as currently planned, the Public Works Department will
need to administrate 41.5 million dollars worth of public improvement projects
over the next several years. That’s about 4 to 6 million dollars worth of public
improvement projects each year.

The Public Works Department will not be able to support these goals and their
associated pubic improvement projects at our current staffing level.

Filling the Public Works Supervisor position at this time will restore the historic
staffing level the Public Works Department has had for many years – prior to the
City implementing any public improvement projects.

The job description of this position is proposed to be revised to include
supervision duties over all divisions of public works including the parks division.
The long range staffing plan for Public W orks is to have the Parks Supervisor
position evolve into a lead worker or foreman position at some time in the future.
In the meantime, the City would continue to retain both a Public Works and Parks
Supervisor position.

Recommendation:
It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached resolution granting
authorization to advertise for the Public Works Supervisor Position.

Respectfully Submitted,

Greg Lee, Director of Public Works
