The current product has been on the
market since August 2006 and Apple has updated all of their other computer models more
recently than the Mac Pro series. Reports from industry websites expect that the new
models will include the new processor, new or updated motherboards to accommodate
faster bus speeds, newer models of graphic card, and possibly several other significant
design changes. The Apple Cinema Display monitors are also thought to be updated.

In the past Apple has offered replacement computer models with improved performance
specifications at price points similar to the existing lineup. The recommendation from the
industry discussion boards is to not purchase a Mac Pro suntil the new models are
introduced.

The funds for the non-linear editing system are not present in the 2008 budget. Due to the
anticipated major improvements to the computer system, and suggestions of waiting for
the new model, staff recommends that the City Council adjust the draft 2008 cable budget
to carry over the $8500 in the Capital Equipment fund (Account #210 – 4350 – 7030) from
2007 to 2008 to allow additional time to purchase a non-linear editing system that will
better suit the video production needs of the City of Mounds View.

Respectfully Submitted,
Vanessa Van Alstine
Cable Television Coordinator
