Item No: 07F Meeting Date: February 27, 2006 Type of Business: CA City Administrator Review: ______ City of Mounds View Staff Report To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Desaree Crane, Assistant to the City Administrator Item Title/Subject: Resolution 6751 Approving a Permit Application for Merrick, Inc., a Charitable Organization to conduct Charitable Gambling at Robert’s Sports Bar and Entertainment located in the City of Mounds View Merrick, Inc., a non-profit charitable organization would like to continue hold charitable gambling on a permanent basis at Robert’s Sports Bar and Entertainment located at 2400 County Road H2, in the City of Mounds View. Their gambling permit is up for renewal this year. Merrick, Inc., has been holding charitable gambling at Robert’s Sport’s Bar and Entertainment since May of 2004. Merrick, Inc., is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable corporation, licensed by DHS as a Day Training & Habilitation (DT&H) and Supported Employment Services (SES) provider. The focus of their program is to provide employment services to adults with a developmental disability. Merrick, Inc.’s offices are currently located in Vadnais Heights. They have been in existence since 1964, and have 30 active members, which meets the requirements of the Mounds View City Code. A list of current member is on file with the City. The Gambling Control Board requires that local unit of government (city or county), pass a resolution specifically approving or denying the Premises Permit Application. This resolution (approving or denying the application) must be voted on and the resolution forwarded to the Minnesota Gambling Control Board. Recommendation: Staff recommends approval of Premise Permit to permit Charitable Gambling for Merrick, Inc., at the location stated above.
