6 . 07 <br /> Subdivision 2. Without Examination. In case of appoint- <br /> ment for positions for which examinations are not required , the <br /> appointing authority may appoint any person who appears to meet <br /> the requirements of the position and whom the appointing <br /> authority deems qualified to perform the duties of the position. <br /> Subdivision 3. Relation to Other Municipal Personnel and <br /> Residents. Whenever possible, and with due regard for merit and <br /> fitness , the appointing authority shall avoid the appointment of <br /> ,any person when such person is related to any elected or <br /> appointed officer or employee of the Municipality. Appointment <br /> or assignments of persons related to any elected or appointed <br /> officer or employee in the same department is prohibited . <br /> 6 . 07. PHYSICAL EXAMINATION. Unless otherwise exempted by <br /> the appointing authority, all successful applicants for municipal <br /> service shall undergo a physical examination which shall be .con- <br /> ducted by a physician selected by the Council . All costs of the <br /> examinations shall be borne by the Municipality. <br /> 6 . 08 . PROBATIONARY PERIOD. <br /> Subdivision 1 . Purpose. The probationary period shall be <br /> regarded as an integral part of the examination process and shall <br /> be utilized for closely observing the employee ' s work, for <br /> securing the most effective adjustment of the employee to his <br /> position, and for rejecting any employee whose performance does <br /> not meet the required work standards . <br /> Subdivision 2 . Duration. All original and promotional <br /> appointments shall be probationary and subject to a probationary <br /> period of six months service after appointment. At any time <br /> during the original probationary period an employee may be trans- <br /> ferred or dismissed . At any time during the promotional proba- <br /> tionary period , an employee may be placed in the position he <br /> occupied previous to promotion. <br /> Subdivision 3 . Performance Reports . At the end of the <br /> first three months of the probationary period , the employee ' s <br /> supervisor shall submit a written report to the Clerk- <br /> Administrator on his observation of the Pmployee ' s work and his <br /> judgement as to the employee ' s willingness and ability to perform <br /> his duties satisfactorily. <br /> Subdivision <br /> Subdivision 4 . How Completed . At least ten days prior to <br /> the expiration of an employee 's probationary period , the <br /> employee ' s supervisor shall make a written report to the <br /> appointing authority recommending the employee to be retained , <br /> dismissed or placed in his previous position. <br /> Subdivision 5. Sick Leave and Other Benefits During <br /> Probation. During the initial probationary period , but not <br /> during a promotional probationary period , an employee will not be <br /> paid for any absence from work with the exception of legal paid <br /> holidays.
