We chose not to extend the <br /> deadline. Such action could have been seen as the cities attempt to drag <br /> their feet. We chose, instead, to let the deadline remain knowing that, <br /> once this study is undertaken and proves to be more difficult than <br /> initially perceived, an extension will have to be granted by the <br /> legislature. <br /> I will keep you posted as events occur. This issue appears to be here <br /> for the duration. Even the State has jumped on the bandwagon by praising <br /> Ramsey County and St. Paul for their attempts to initiate cost savings <br /> in local government (per Lyle Schwarzkopf's remarks at the luncheon <br /> yesterday) . <br /> so/mjs <br />
