WATER UTILITY COMMENTARY
The Water Utility accounts for the cost of providing water
service to City residents and businesses. Water is pumped from
six underground wells, treated, stored in an above ground
reservoir and two water towers, and distributed to customers on
demand. The City owns and operates this system.
Costs of operation of the Water Utility are recovered from users
in the form of user fees. The policy of the City is to operate
the Water Utility on a break-even basis. Water user fees are
reviewed annually as to their adequacy to recover costs of
operating the Water Utility.
CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW
WATER FUND EXPENSES
MAINT 18.4% DEBT 22.2%
CAPITAL 2.8% MAINT 5.1%
DEBT 8.9% CAPITAL 2.4%
DEPREC 7.2% DEPREC 8.7%
OPERATIONS 84.7% OPERATIONS 83.7%
1990 1991
1990 1991 CHANGE CHANGE
ESTIMATED ESTIMATED DOLLARS PERCENT
EXPENSES:
OPERATIONS $368,296 $389,079 $20,783 5.64%
DEPRECIATION $40,771 $40,771 $0 0.00%
CAPITAL OUTLAY $15,940 $14,910 ($1,030) -6.46%
MAINTENANCE $93,500 $31,000 ($62,500) -66.84%
DEBT SERVICE $50,850 $135,475 $84,625 166.42%
TOTAL $569,357 $611,235 $41,878 7.36%
The pie chart above compares 1991 budgeted Water Fund expenses to
1990 expenses by type of expense.
