• FIRE DEPARTMENT BOND REFERENDUM
SPRING LAKE PARK-BLAINE-MOUNDS VIEW
NOVEMBER 6, 1990
WE NEED YOUR. H 1 LP
Two of our stations need replacing and six new pieces of apparatus are needed. Old age and
constant use has brought our equipment to its present condition; the average age of the apparatus
to be replaced is 22 years. We also are proposing to add crew quarters at Stations 4 and 5,
participate in a joint training facility with three other fire departments, acquire a
Communications/Command van, and retire the current items in our Capital Improvement Plan.
Station 1, Spring Lake Road and Highway 10, has seen its best day. Because of its deteriorated
condition (doors aren't high enough, inadequate exhaust and floor drainage systems, etc.), it cannot
be remodeled to accommodate new apparatus.
Station 2, with new Highway 610 next to it, will become isolated and impractical for use by a
volunteer fire service.
• Additions to Stations 4 and 5 will provide crew quarters-- a place for the firefighters to relax before
and after calls. At the present time they have to use the apparatus floors which is unhealthy and
contrary to OSHA regulations. The joint training facility will provide us with a tower, burn unit,
drafting pit and flammable liquid spill area; none of these training aids are available to us now.
We are experiencing major repair problems with our present apparatus that will only worsen with
the passage of time. This means trucks out of service, unavailable for calls, and a dramatic increase
in operating costs.
WHAT ARE THE COSTS?
All three cities will be sharing in the cost on the same basis as our yearly fire budget. The total
bond package is $4,450,000.
RESIDENTIAL VALUATION $75,000 $100,000 $125,000
YEARLY COST FOR RESIDENTS
OF SPRING LAKE PARK $10 $16 $25
Please vote YES to help us maintain the first class service we now provide for you and your family.
If you would like more information or want to schedule a presentation for a neighborhood or club
group, please call the Fire Department office at 786-4436.
• *****
