ITEM 7 <br /> • <br /> MEMO TO: Mayor and City Council <br /> FROM: Public Works Foreman Ulrich <br /> ( - <br /> DATE: January 9 , 1990 <br /> SUBJECT ; Purchase of sweeper <br /> Earlier this fall we demonstrated two street sweepers , an <br /> Elgin from MacQueen Equipment and an Athey H-10A from Boyum <br /> Equipment. We conducted our tests on Hillview Road both east and <br /> west of Long Lake Road. The reason for this being that the east <br /> side is new sealcoat and the west is an older, smoother surface. <br /> Each sweeper was expected to sweep the street clean and pick-up <br /> the material , which consisted of recycled asphalt, leaves , <br /> branches , lumber, and cans. Each of the sweepers performed with <br /> similar results . For that reason an open spec was offered to both <br /> vendors . Although both sweepers are very similar, they both have <br /> different theories to their operation and different standard and <br /> . optional equipment. They were asked to note these in their bids . <br /> We recieved the following bids : <br /> Boyum Equipment $75 , 243 . 00 <br /> MacQueen Equipment $70 ,783. 00 <br /> (optional extended warranty) $ 338 . 00 <br /> Based on the demonstration of these two sweepers and the <br /> relative similarities of them, we are reccommending the award to <br /> the low bidder, plus the extended warranty. <br /> RECCOMMENDATION: Staff reccommends the award to MacQueen <br /> Equipment for an Elgin Series P street sweeper, plus extended <br /> warranty option for $71 , 121 . 00 to be charged to 420-4121-703 , <br /> Storm Water Management fund, or 100-4270-703 , Street Dept Capital <br /> Fund if this money is transfered to that account. <br />
