r
MEMO TO: MAYOR AND COUNCILMEMBERS
FROM: MARY SAARION, DIRECTOR 4tidirK7
41) PARKS, RECREATION AND FORESTRY
DATE: MARCH 28, 1990
SUBJECT: LETTER REQUESTING COMPLIANCE TO USING FERTILIZER
WITHOUT PHOSPHOROUS
The Silver View Task Force has expressed their concern for the well-being of the
Silver View Pond water quality. As they noted, one of the management
recommendations from Environmental Specialists is the reduction of phosphorous in
the water. The Task Force requested staff to write a letter which would be
appropriate for distribution to residents requesting compliance in using fertilizers
without phosphorus.
It was requested from the Task Force that this letter be distributed to residents in the
Silver View Park Pond drainage area, as shown on the attached map. This area
includes the Silver Lake Woods Homeowners Association, Scotland Green Apartments,
and residents of the Silver Lake Woods.
SI have written a letter requesting such compliance for your review. The Parks and
Recreation Commission has reviewed and recommended it. The Task Force will
review the letter on Wednesday, April 4 at their second meeting. It is their concern
that the letter is distributed as soon as possible so that homeowners will have the
request for compliance and information before they purchase fertilizers or contract for
lawn services.
The Silver View Task Force is requesting Council approval for distribution of this
letter.
MS/SL
•
